Pat Davidson and Fiona Wright are textile artists who use non traditional techniques to produce their art. Fiona has been on a broad path traveling the world teaching workshops and leading textile tours; Pat has been in Newcastle moving in very small circles teaching students with special needs and renovating her house. They are friends and have both completed a Master of Visual and Performing Arts (Textiles) through Charles Sturt University. Their focus for this exhibition centers around leaves.

“Leaves, like people, are rarely found as perfect specimens. Whether through birth, ageing or life experiences, each has unique imperfections which are often more beautiful than the ideal”
I have been picking up leaves from eucalypts ever since I can remember. I walk the same way every day but it is endlessly interesting because the minutiae changes; each leaf I pick up is a unique artwork. They sit on the kitchen table, their dying colours gradually fading into the subtle tones of the bush. This obsession has honed my skills in drawing with the sewing machine and painting on textile surfaces.

Fiona Wright
“All places are leaves out of the same book – the Earth
We are all leaves from the same book - humanity “
I started with the intention of recording my travels and found I was contemplating leaving those things left as much as the actual places I was visiting and leaving.
